In a commendable display of corporate social responsibility, 50 participants from KLCC Group recently participated in a mangrove planting programme at Taman Rekreasi Paya Bakau Sijangkang, Telok Panglima Garang in Klang, Selangor on 26 February 2025. This initiative, aimed at conserving and keeping a healthier environment, saw enthusiastic participation from employees who dedicated their time and effort to restore the vital mangrove ecosystem.

The programme, organised by Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) Department, in collaboration with Association for the International Exchange of Students in Economics and Commerce (AIESEC) from Universiti Putra Malaysia, involved the planting of 100 mangrove saplings, contributing to climate change mitigation by capturing atmospheric carbon even in their early stages of growth. In their first year, these young mangroves are estimated to sequester between 0.8 to 1.2 metric tons of CO₂, with their carbon absorption capacity increasing as they mature. Beyond carbon sequestration, the initiative also supports marine biodiversity, enhances coastal resilience, and helps prevent erosion.

The participants also gained valuable insights into the importance of mangrove ecosystems and how they contribute to coastal protection, biodiversity, and carbon sequestration.  By participating in this initiative, KLCC Group contributed to the preservation of these essential ecosystems, demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship.

The mangrove planting event is part of KLCC Group’s broader sustainability efforts, which include various green initiatives and community engagement programme. Through such activities, the company aims to foster a culture of environmental responsibility and inspire others to take action for a greener future.

This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) 13 (Climate Action), 14 (Life Below Water), and 15 (Life on Land) and enhance volunteer participation as part of KLCC’s Sustainability Plan 2030 under the Prosperity Pillar (Goal 3).
